It lasted just over 10 months at the head of the Ministry of Interior and left in the midst of strong criticism for its inefficiency to fight crime. Juan José Santiváñez He was censored by the Congress of the Republic on March 21 with the vote of 80 parliamentarians from different banks.
Today, however, a resolution of the General Secretariat of the Presidential Office accounted for its designation as head of the General Office of Intergovernmental Monitoring of the Presidential Office. A measure that, according to sources of Peru21was directly arranged by the president Dina Boluarte since it is a trust charge with a monthly remuneration of S/17,568.
A week ago, consulted by the press about the eventual return of Santiváñez to the Executive Power, Prime Minister Gustavo Adrianzén, uncomfortable and shear, replied: “The president has a technical cabinet and probably (he) will be recruited there; I see anything surprising in it.”
What may not be surprising for Adrianzén, however, it is outrageous for the population, who sees how despite all questions, Boluarte continues to bet on characters of proven disability and with a heavy backpack of complaints. And it is that its staunch squire and brand new official is investigated by the Prosecutor of the Nation for corruption by having allegedly charged bribes when he served as a private lawyer, in exchange for managing favorable decisions of judges and prosecutors for his sponsorship.
Santiváñez, remembered, left office in the midst of numerous criticisms, not only from the political sphere, but mainly from the population that in 60% – according to the latest Ipsos survey – considered that insecurity in the country was aggravated since he assumed the conduct of the internal sector.
From there he could not solve the problem of citizen insecurity. On the contrary, the number of murders, assaults, robberies and extortion increased dramatically, which sealed his censorship for Parliament, and that he dedicated himself little to addressing these problems and more to acting vehemently as the defender of President Dina Boluarte of the repeated complaints of irregularities against him.
“It will have a lot of power”
The former Minister of the Interior and political analyst Carlos Basombrío warned that with this position within the presidential office “and so far very little known, Santiváñez, being the conceited of the president, her confidant, ally and operator, will have a lot of power in the government.”
“He is going to be one more actor who takes power to the Premier Gustavo Adrianzén, who is still there because Dina Boluarte does not find someone better. Before the spokesman (Fredy Hinojosa) did, which has disappeared because she is investigated by justice. I believe, in addition, that it is also a message to Congress, a kind of: ‘You take it out of here and put it there. It was his management, ”he said.
As for the head of the PCM, Basombrío commented that the chief of the cabinet will be attached to the return of the former minister to the Executive. “As he is a submissive man and very clinging to the fajín (Adrianzén) he will accept everything that comes to last everything in office,” he concluded.
I knew that
The General Office of Intergovernmental Monitoring did not exist in previous periods. It was created in 2024 during the Government of Dina Boluarte.
In his X account, Santiváñez wrote: “This is a new beginning! Serving my country is an unwavering commitment that I carry in my blood …”. In addition, he said he will continue working for the PNP and accompanied the post with a video with images of his management in the Mininter.
