Juan José Santiváñez, the controversial and questioned Minister of Dina Boluarte, resigned from the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights a few days after the debate of the motion of censure against him that he had planned to carry out in the plenary of the Congress of the Republic.
Through a letter, Santiváñez thanked President Dina Boluarte and clearly indicates that the reason for her resignation is for the “longing to participate as a candidate in the next elections in April 2026”.
Their resignation is given days before the closure of the legal term (October 13) so that the officials leave their positions in case they want to apply in the electoral contest.
Only hours before, the Board of Directors of the Congress of the Republic had informed about the motion against him, which would be debated and voted this Friday, October 3, in accordance with the parliamentary regulations.
Even hours before, Premier Eduardo Arana himself said that no minister informed him about his intention to give up the position of this period to apply.

In an interview with the journalist Milagros Leiva, the mayor of Magdalena, Francis Allison, said that Santiváñez will apply for the Senate by Alliance for Progress with number 5.
As he said, he also has knowledge that number 1 on the list to the upper house of that party will be César Acuña, because the law now allows the presidential candidates. The second location would fall on Marisol Espinoza and then follow the current Minister of Health, César Vásquez.
It transpired that another minister who would also resign to apply is Jorge Montero, of the Ministry of Energy and Mines.
