Juan Francisco Alvarado, a journalism student whose sentence for treason was annulled, is released from prison

The National Union of Press Workers (SNTP) announced this Sunday that they released Juan Francisco Alvaradoa journalism student, who was accused of treason after reporting a sewage boat in his community.

In a publication in X, they explained that the young man He had been detained for 10 months at the headquarters of the Bolivarian National Guard (Cepella), in Guanare.Portuguese state.

This Saturday it was learned that the sentence handed down to the student was annulled by the Court of Appeals of the Cojedes state. The entity determined violations of due process, including the lack of evidence, the absence of witnesses and the violation of the right to defense, and ordered the trial to be repeated with another court and judge.

The SNTP explained that Alvarado’s lawyers had filed an appeal denouncing the violation of the principle of immediacy, which requires the physical and continuous presence of the judge during the hearings to guarantee a fair assessment of the evidence and the right to defense. Furthermore, they had anticipated that the accused crime was not proven.

The young man was arrested on March 20 of last year and accused of treason for reporting on his social networks and through the VenApp application (created by the Venezuelan government) that sewage was overflowing in his community and that the electrical transformers were damaged.
