Juan Daniel Oviedo confirmed his departure from Dane during Petro’s government

The 45-year-old economist, Juan Daniel Oviedo, confirmed in the last hours that he will not continue in front of the direction of the National Administrative Department of Statistics, Dane, during the government of President-elect Gustavo Petro.

The decision would be due to disagreements that arose during the connection process with the new government of the leader of the Historical Pact, specifically on the public policy of cadastral management, a fact that led Oviedo to reject the proposal to continue with said entity.

Despite this decision, the current director of Dane does not rule out being part of Gustavo Petro’s cabinet, but he pointed out that he would do it in a new dependency.

“The president-elect sent me an email offering me the possibility to continue, but there were differences in the joint in what has been built since the Dane, especially in the cadastral issue. This weekend I thought about it and decided not to accept, “said Oviedo in an interview with Noticias RCN.

It should be noted that Oviedo is one of the officials who enjoy great favor in the cabinet of President Iván Duque and who has led important transformations since his arrival at Dane.

It has also played an important role in including the LGTBI population in the different measurements developed by the National Administrative Department, Dane.

After announcing his retirement from the entity, Oviedo indicated that he would like to take some time off, without neglecting his work as a teacher at the Universidad del Rosario, where he works as director of the Doctoral School of Economics and as director of Planning and Institutional Effectiveness.

Within his resume it is highlighted that he is an economist with a master’s degree in mathematical economics and econometrics from the Universidad del Rosario, and has a doctorate from the University of Toulouse 1, in France.

After knowing his decision, multiple personalities have sent their congratulatory messages, highlighting the work that Juan Daniel Oviedo developed during these years.

Nevertheless, So far there is no statement from the elected president, Gustavo Petro, and it is unknown who would be the new director of Dane.
