In his first public appearance after the announcement, Castillo expressed the responsibility he assumes with this position and advanced the priorities that will guide his management.
“It is a different challenge,” said Castillo when referring to his new appointment, highlighting the emotion and commitment that the position implies. «Despite the years and experience, it is still a responsibility that the president-elect and the group of colleagues offer me this task. We will try not to fail. “I may be wrong, we may be wrong, but we will have to correct it immediately because there is no room for error when the fate of the workers is at stake,” he stated.
Regarding the priorities of his portfolio, Castillo stressed the need to defend the rights of workers without harming other sectors. “There are postponed demands here,” he acknowledged, alluding to the difficulties that many Uruguayans face in a challenging economic context.
The future minister also reflected on the social inequalities that worsen on sensitive dates such as the end of the year holidays. “Some are already planning who they will spend the holidays with, and others don’t know how they will spend it,” he lamented. Faced with this reality, he advocated promoting a fairer distribution of wealth and strengthening solidarity as a right for all Uruguayans.
In addition, Castillo emphasized the importance of protecting the industry and national production, highlighting the role of workers as key actors in the development of the country. “We have to think about the workers, who are the ones who create all this,” he concluded.
