The leader of the Association of Colombians and Colombians in Venezuela, Juan Carlos Tanus, asserted this Monday that since the arrival of Gustavo Petro to power in the New Granada country, relations between Colombia and Venezuela have raised the level of confidence “because investors They feel safe.”
This is how he made it known, in the Punto de Encuentro program, where he stressed that “the Colombian oligarchy is clear that if relations with Venezuela allow it to have a favorable cash flow, they accept it and adapt to it.”

He stated that all these bilateral meetings between the two nations, either between the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, and his counterpart, Gustavo Petro, or with Foreign Minister Álvaro Leyva, “is another of the favorable points, because they evaluate each issue that was paralyzed since 2015, as a result of the closure of the borders during the administration of President Juan Manuel Santos”.
He considered as a significant event, between Colombia and Venezuela, the conference of April 25, an initiative of the Colombian Government in favor of dialogue in Venezuela. “President Petro is risking his prestige and the possibility of building a new leadership on the continent,” Tanus said.
He recalled that Colombia has a long-standing conflict and emphasized that at the end of 2013, Juan Manuel Santos dedicated himself in his first term to maintaining good interests for Colombia, but by 2015, he changed his international policy and had many problems. with the countries of Latin America, including Venezuela, a reason that forced the Government of President Nicolás Maduro, “to take concrete actions as a result of the lack of control of paramilitarism and destabilizing attempts, financed by USAID, which sought to generate a coup d’état in Venezuela” .
However, Juan Carlos Tanus highlighted that the Government of Venezuela has reached a high level of containment and praised the ability with which it has worked to face all these processes.
He stressed that President Petro has shown interest in rebuilding bilateral relations and proof of this are the constant meetings that are held every month, he considered that this confidence has had an impact on investors, -it is still slow, however, confidence has been growing – especially in the area of tourism, Tanus said.
