Speaking to RPP, the president of the Congressional Oversight CommissionJuan Burgos, lashed out at the Minister of the Interior, Juan José Santiváñez and accused him of obstructing investigations into the alleged use of the presidential vehicle in the escape of Vladimir Cerrón.
Burgos said that there would be a “conspiracy” to prevent the version of the non-commissioned officer of the National Police of Peru and driver of the ‘box’ from being known, Felix Montalvo Guevara in the fourth session of the Congressional Oversight Commission. “What they are doing is an obstruction. Above all, showing the fear they have that theCongress grant us the authority to be an investigative commission,” he said.
“Definitely, There is a plot, a ruse to prevent us from knowing the truth. and all Peruvians are informed,” added Juan Burgos. Finally, the parliamentarian added that they will continue to insist and trust that the Minister of the Interior will finally grant the permit, since he considers that the current refusal is an illegal and unconstitutional measure.
The driver of the ‘cofre’ will not appear before the Oversight Commission
Previously, the Minister of the Interior,Juan José Santiváñez, informed Congress that the PNP non-commissioned officer Félix Montalvo Guevarathe driver of the presidential vehicle, will not attend the Oversight Commission to explain why this vehicle was in Pisco in February of this year.
The decision was announced through an official statement, in which the absence of the non-commissioned officer is justified for reasons of state security. “The aforementioned PNP non-commissioned officer has been assigned to state security, and is obliged to maintain confidentiality of the information of the President, given thatSuch information cannot be disclosedfor reasons of personal security due to his high position,” the statement read.
Likewise, Santiváñez explained that to allow his participation, he was asked tothe Supervisory Commission to send a questionnaireto exclude questions that could compromise the privacy or security of the president. This response was sent to Congressman Juan Burgos, who chairs the Oversight Committee and had summoned Guevara for October 2.
