Juan Becerra Acosta: PRI Soliloquies Disguised as Dialogues

76 years of its foundation, and after some name changes –PNR, PRM and finally the one it bears today– it could be naive to be surprised by the political organization that in its acronym, PRI, keeps the darkest meanings of Mexican politics.

He succeeded again, the dinosaur surprised, once again, with that cynicism through which he expresses his brutality. On this occasion through some soliloquies that they called dialogues, and that were nothing more than a trick executed by princes of corruption that could well have been summed up with the words The king is dead, long live the kingand whose intention is, solely, to contend in the presidential election of 2024, but without a project, beyond obtaining power for power.

In an attempt to redeem herself from the past, Senator Claudia Ruiz Massieu spoke about the loss of prestige of the tricolor, to which he pointed out that he was recognized for corruption and lack of consistency with the principles that he claims to uphold. He accepted the lack of results of the PRI governments, as well as the vanity and personal ambition of those who, from his party, and in public service, served themselves and not the nation. we lost our wayhe said, when what they really lost was power, because they have never had a course, beyond the one that leads to looting that impoverishes a rich country.

Beyond the rhetoric of Senator Ruiz Massieu, with which she said in an articulated manner that she was examining her conscience, it sounds complicated, if not impossible, to believe that these words of reflection have an intention that goes beyond marketing, and one He keeps asking himself: if they are really against what for almost eight decades has turned the PRI into what it is –something that no one is unaware of– what are they doing there? How many times have we not witnessed the presentations of the new PRIthe most recent when through a casting They elected the candidate with whom they regained the Presidency in 2012 –with everything and a soap opera wife–, whose cabinet full of enthusiastic young people turned out worse than the previous ones, turning that six-year term into the Hidalgoplagued by fraud, bribery, delivery of resources to private individuals and foreigners and human rights violations, in addition to crimes against humanity, as happened with the disappearance, and subsequent cover-up, of the young people of Ayotzinapa?

Revolutionary and institutional at the same time, this is the PRI, as incongruous as its name itself and the discourse of those who, as before, are wearing revolutionary words to cover up with revolutionary words that corruption that they have institutionalized. The party left the revolutionaries behind to give way to the criminals. No one buys, in their right mind, the song that we already realized that we were bad, but now we are going to be good. The PRI has even more plastic surgeries than the face of its leader, but not even with them can the wrinkles of impunity be covered.
