Aryans land had to be bought to unite in a single property a tropical-style dream house whose high walls prevented from the outside being able to appreciate the sumptuous gardens with fruit trees that gave shade to peacocks that, like its owner, flaunted for too long and without modesty the plumage. The video surveillance cameras had covered the entire perimeter of that residence to prevent the intrusion of people who were not invited to stay there longer than the simple passage through the site could take.
This is not the setting for a series that advocates the drug dealer, nor from a Colombian residence that Pablo Escobar used on so many occasions and for different purposes, but rather –located in Juitepec, Morelos– from one of the many properties owned by Genaro García Luna, Felipe Calderón’s Secretary of Public Security, who was relaxing on his warm pool while in the distance he listened to the running of the crystalline water of his private stream.
Added to the Morelense property of more than 2,000 square meters are several more in the name of García Luna or his wife and front men. For example, a house in the exclusive Jardines de la Montaña residential complex, or restaurants in Cuernavaca and Xochimilco -with all the privileges of tax remissions from the government of Felipe Calderón-, and six properties in the very expensive area of Aventura, Florida . To this is added at least 745 million dollars that García Luna stole –according to the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU)– from the treasury while he was Secretary of Security for the sad eponymous we know as calderonato
, when he built a network of corruption and money laundering through 44 companies and eight individuals. In addition, he is known to buy luxury cars Ferrari, Bentley, Land Rover and, among others, Lamborghini.
The assets mentioned in the previous paragraphs are not the only ones that are known to belong, or belonged, to Genaro García Luna, and surely many more must be outside the radar of the authorities –both Mexican and United States–, but based on As far as is known, it seems that it should be enough to realize that having been a public official, he does not have sufficient economic solvency to acquire only a quarter of the aforementioned with his salary and benefits, unless he commits a crime . But despite this, an opposition group sees the problem in that Pablo Gómez, head of the UIF, pronounced Lamborghini incorrectly, and not in that García Luna bought one with money defrauded from the people.
The affirmations presented by witnesses of the prosecution in the trial that takes place in New York against who was the right hand of Felipe Calderón have tried to be disqualified because, according to the opinionology illustrated by the recalcitrant right, are statements made by criminals who cannot be trusted, because they are, justly, criminals. They seem to be unaware of those who, with firmness and even insults, utter this statement disguised as an argument that it would be difficult to find a witness to criminal operations, including delivery of bribes, threats, money laundering, etc., who is not a criminal due, in large part, to the fact that the Sisters of charity do not walk in these scenarios, neither do honest accountants, much less clean officials and police officers. Or who did they expect as a witness? It must be remembered that in the trials in the United States against the Italian-American mafia, the witnesses were also criminals involved in crimes for which various bosses were finally sentenced.
Calderón’s silences, to which are added those of García Luna in the trial, are more eloquent than any trick that the defense tries to do. The verdict rests on a jury that is expected to sentence that continues to open the sewer of a drug government. No matter how much you deny it calderonically
, it is difficult to believe that Felipe Calderón did not have –at least– knowledge that García Luna operated for the Sinaloa cartel, which would imply –from the outset– complicity. As much as his ability as a ruler was nil, as he suggests by claiming to be unaware that his right hand man worked for a criminal group, such a claim exceeds the limits of cynicism. It is necessary that it is not only history that judges Felipe Calderón and those involved in his drug governmentbut also that justice does it.
