Journalist Mariela Mejía wins award for FITUR 2023

The journalist Mariela Mejía, Economics editor at the newspaper Free Dailyhe won FITUR Coverage Grand Prix 2023, in the first opportunity that this recognition is made to journalists who cover this tourist fair.

Mejía and other winners will receive the award in an act that will convene the Ministry of Tourisminstitution promoter of prize of the fair, developed in collaboration with the Dominican Tourist Press Association (Adompretur) and sponsored by Banco Popular and Banco de Reservas.

This prize aims to encourage Dominican journalistic coverage at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), an event that brings together world tourism professionals, in which new products are presented and trends in the sector are known.

Before starting the event, Mejía began the publications on the activities and the most important events that would be covered, such as the inauguration of the Representation Office of the Banco de Reservas Abroad, an event of great importance for the country. .

The fair was held from January 18 to 22 in Madrid, Spain. The first day of the event, the stand of the Dominican Republic was inaugurated, which was visited by the King of Spain, Felipe VI, and his wife, Letizia Ortiz. Meetings with businessmen, project presentations, both from the Ministry of Tourism, of the Reservas, Popular and BHD banks, as well as interviews with executives and officials.

The publications continued until after the end of the event and were enriched with videos, statistics and other materials.

Other awardees

In the written and/or digital press category, the newspaper El Nuevo Diario was the winner, while an honorable mention was made to the work of Cándida Acosta, from Listín Diario.

In the television category, Roberto Cavada and the Telenoticias team won, with an honorable mention for CDN Cadena de Noticia.

More than 200 journalistic works, submitted by more than 20 applicants, were analyzed.

The jury was made up of Andrés Marranzini, executive vice president of the Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic; Manuel Luna Sued, president of the Santo Domingo Chamber of Commerce; Ernesto Veloz, president of the Eastern Association of Hotels and Tourism Projects; and Amelia Reyes Mora, vice president of the Dominican Association of Health Tourism.

Leading newspaper in the Dominican Republic focused on general news and innovative journalism.
