Sports commentator Marcio Guedes died on the night of this Friday (3), at the age of 76, in Rio de Janeiro. He had been facing the symptoms of hepatitis C, but there is still no confirmed information about the cause of death.
In a five-decade career, the journalist worked at Jornal do Brasil, Correio da Manhã, Jornal da Tarde/ Estado de São Paulo. He was a columnist and commentator in the newspaper O Dia, on Band, on TV Manchete, on TV Globo, on Record, on ESPN and since 2001 he worked on TV Brasil. Currently, Marcio Guedes provided commentary for sports programs on Radio Nacional (Bate Bola Nacional and No Mundo da Bola) and TV Brasil (Stadium and No Mundo da Bola), Brazil Communication Company (EBC).
Marcio Guedes received two Esso Journalism awards in the exercise of his profession. The first in Correio da Manhã for the series of articles “Football in three times”, about the rise, glory and decay of soccer stars. The second in Jornal da Tarde/ Estado de São Paulo for the article “This is how the star was made: Zico”.
There is still no information about the journalist’s wake.
