News Colombia.
Fredy Calvache, renowned journalist and former newspaper correspondent in the department of Cauca, is going through one of the most difficult stages of his life. Diagnosed in July 2024 with gastric cancer in an advanced state, listed as a terminal, today faces the suspension of all medical treatment.
In a video posted on his social networks, Calvache shared the news that has moved colleagues, friends and followers: “The news here is not very good.” He explained that, after a meeting with his medical team in Switzerland, he was informed that there are no longer options to combat the disease.
“We had a meeting last Thursday and the doctors tell me that they already give practically any treatment to try to fight the cancer I have, stomach cancer and that only they provide me are palliative care but that already hopes of a healing for the disease do not have it,” he said during an interview with Tubarco.
The desire to return home
Far from his homeland due to exile forced by threats received in Colombia, Fredy expressed his biggest desire: “Return to my homeland, return to the house, be with my family.”
Currently, he advances migratory procedures to return. “I have to send a hospital document with the summary of what they say that there is practically nothing to do so that migration already authorizes the trip to Colombia,” he said.
The journalist explained that his return could be given through an ambulance plane for the need to transfer medical equipment for food assistance, but high costs have been a barrier. However, solidarity people have offered him the possibility of traveling on a first -class commercial flight, a cheaper alternative but also requires financial support
Today, his return to Colombia depends on the help of those who value their work and commitment in the southwest of the country. Fredy shared the savings account number for those who want to contribute: Bancolombia 20775848182 – Fredy Calvache.
“As small as they are, they are well received,” he concluded.
