The journalist Enrique Vargas Peña declared himself in favor of the presidential candidacy of Efraín Alegre. And he did it in full interview with the liberal presidential candidate Hugo Fleitas, current governor of the department of Cordillera.
“I support the candidacy of Efraín Alegre,” admitted Vargas Peña on the 730 AM radio station, pointing out while pointing out to Fleitas that the request for an explanation of the PLRA’s accountability, to the head of liberalism, is interpreted (by the communicator) as an attempt by the PLRA dissidents to remove Alegre from the electoral redll.
“What the (PLRA) convention asks for is transparency in the financial management of the party. There is no intention of leaving Efrain out,” Fleitas replied to the communicator.
He added that the leadership of liberalism, manifested in the party assembly, was clear in the sense that it is necessary to record whether or not there were financial irregularities during the previous administration of the liberal president.
As is known, Alegre is accused of producing false documentation (falsified invoice) in fuel purchases. The fact was verified during the presidential election process in 2018.
The president of the main opposition party must attend an oral trial, next July, in a case in which he has even been held in preventive detention in the Specialized Group.
In the PLRA, the existing concern focuses on the possibility that Alegre could be sentenced in the trial in question. And that in the hypothetical case that he is elected candidate of the agreement, he could jeopardize the Liberal chance of leading the opposition unit to face the ANR.
