MIAMI, United States. — Alexis Schlachter, a Cuban journalist specializing in scientific issues, died today in Havana, the island’s official media reported.
Throughout his career, Schlachter was a reporter for the newspaper Granma, in which he directed the page “Challenge to the imagination”, dedicated to science and technology. He also ventured into various radio stations in the country, such as Rebel Radio, Radio Progress and Radio Havana Cuba.
The portal Cuba journalists indicates that, due to his versatility, the reporter was able to develop both in the written press, as well as on radio and television.
Most Cubans remember Schlachter for having been the creator, scriptwriter and host of the other geographya program broadcast by Cuban Television at the end of the nineties of the last century.
President for many years of the Circle of Scientific Journalists of Cuba, Alexis Schlachter was a professor of Communications at the University of Havana and a lecturer in international courses.
In accordance with Cuba journalistsSchlachter also represented the island in events of the Ibero-American Organization of Scientific Journalism and in meetings related to the communication of science in European and Asian countries.
The aforementioned medium adds that the deceased journalist made relevant contributions to the knowledge of the scientific culture of José Martí and the German influence on the Apostle’s work, topics on which he published books and numerous articles.
While alive, Alexis Schlachter received awards from the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC), the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), the José Martí Cultural Society and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA).
