Journalism and its challenges

Inaki Fernandez Bogado

The work of making a message common has its positive and negative sides. On the one hand, there is the recognition that a communicator can have for his work of informing well without leaning to any side or making him think through the good use of the word and with respect for his audience. On the other hand, suffering the consequences of making public facts that, by inconveniencing certain sectors, can endanger their lives or expose themselves to dangerous spaces and threaten their health and even lose their jobs, either because they do not adapt to the new ways of the periodic work of informing or due to the crisis suffered by some communication companies.

Now it’s up to the British Broadcasting Corporation (British broadcasting corporation) known as the BBC to cut the number of communications personnel, with almost 400 positions in its international service. Britain’s iconic public information service will shut down Arabic, Persian and Chinese radio stations.

382 posts in its international service, in order to accelerate its transition to digital. A well-known history of adapting to change

The first newspaper that appeared in Europe dates back to the 17th century. Information gazettes were first printed by Mercurius Gallobelgicus in Cologne, Germany, in 1596; written in Latin, it extensively recounted the last days of the Roman Empire.

The paper is followed by the sound with the radio and then the light and audio with the television. What makes the communicator have to change and adapt to the formats that appear and be able to continue reporting, with writing, mouth or image anywhere, doing a little of everything. What used to go out of coverage with a lighting designer, sound engineer, driver and makeup artist today is reduced to a person who must be busy operating and thinking about the content of an audiovisual story.

changing times

These new ways affect the work of others and challenge the journalist to have more roles in his duty as a communicator, using only his phone, notebook and ideas in order to make a story, interview or documentary that will be broadcast by his media outlet.

The BBC has a network of more than 250 correspondents in the British territory and more than 100 capital cities around the world. This medium begins in 1922, with October 18 being the date of his first century alive.

Just as the Paraguayan civil war that took place between May 1922 and June 1923 also has a century. It began with the uprising of several military chiefs from the interior of the country and where the journalistic work had Rafael Barret as war correspondent.

The work of communicating is not about looking individually on screen, paper or radio stations, but above all it is about doing a good writing, audio or video editing and developing a story that will have the serious responsibility of reaching the minds of a public that ultimately has to qualify what the journalist does as good or bad.

The changes in the formats have come to stay. It remains to adapt or perish. What it includes is the ability to communicate and create community.
