A funeral mass will be held this Friday, September 20, for the young Joseling Vanessa Rodríguez Argueta, 23 years old, in the parish of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, in the municipality of Santa María de Pantasma, Jinotega, and her remains will be buried in the afternoon today, in the cemetery of the same town.

The young woman who became the latest victim of femicide so far this year was murdered by her ex-partner this Thursday with at least nine shots, while the woman was walking near the health center in the Jinotega municipality.

José Samuel Aráuz Blandón, the alleged perpetrator of the crime, was arrested by the police hours after the murder of his ex-partner Rodríguez Argueta, who left behind a minor.

According to preliminary information, Aráuz intercepted his ex-partner on the public road, in front of the health center of said municipality, got out of his truck and fired nine shots at point-blank range, hitting the young woman in the abdomen, chest and face, causing her death almost immediately.

Witnesses to the crime say that Arauz left Rodriguez mortally wounded in the street, got into his truck and fled. The events were recorded by security cameras in the area and in videos circulating on social media, recorded by passersby.

Relatives of the victim say that Rodriguez had ended her relationship with Arauz two days ago because the man had recently become violent and possessive, so the young woman decided to live in the municipality of Pantasma.

As of August 2024, 52 Nicaraguan women have been victims of femicide, according to a report by the Observatory of Catholics for the Right to Decide. Feminist organizations claim that violent deaths of women continue to increase and demand that the government take stricter measures to prevent the numbers from continuing to rise.
