The president of the Congress José Williams (Avanza País) tried to explain the privilege that the 130 parliamentarians have to consume a buffet valued at S/80 per person, according to a report by Cuarto Poder. He affirmed that this concession is only received when they participate in plenary sessions.

“Before the pandemic there was already a buffet in the Congress, stopped due to the pandemic. The congressmen receive this buffet only when it is full time”, expressed in statements to the press.
Likewise, Williams Zapata stressed that this service is not provided at the meetings of the Board of Directors or the Board of Spokespersons, and that on particular days the normal ration is offered, the cost of which is S/25.
“I have heard that they say that it also occurs in the Board of Directors, in a meeting of spokespersons, no, not at all. Only when there is a plenary session because the congressmen are there from 9 or 10 in the morning until 10, 11″he added.

For his part, the senior officer of Parliament, Jose Cevascoclarified that the buffets have been given to legislators since 2000 and that market studies are carried out permanently on food prices.
“The history of buffets begins in the year 2000, it is not a new thing, what happens is that there is a new public that is impacted”, he mentioned.
