Dominican slugger Jose Ramirez tied a historic brand in the Cleveland franchise at the tip of
home runs.
The All-Star third baseman was the highlight of his team’s 8-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Monday night, but thanks to a pair of home runs he brought him closer to making history with the Guardians.
With the home runs moved his name into more of the franchise’s historical leaderboards. The two
Jose Ramirez’s homer tied him for second on Cleveland’s all-time home run list with Albert Belle (242 HR), behind only Jim Thome (337).
And in typical Ramirez fashion, he didn’t make history quietly. He got his second set of multiple
of the season and the first hit was the longest of all his home runs tracked by Statcast (since 2015) at 451 feet.
And since Jose Ramirez only hit two before the Statcast Era, it seems safe to say this is definitely the longest of his major league career.
Not even one of Jose Ramirez’s hits in this year’s Home Run Derby topped this one. After he got the offensive party started with an RBI double in the first inning, he attacked a changeup over the heart of Tigers pitcher Bryan Sammons’ plate and sent it 451 feet with an exit velocity of 108.8 mph.
José Ramírez has undoubtedly been Cleveland’s best player in recent years and one of the most
consistent across the MLB for at least the past decade. In 2024, the veteran switch-hitter has a .276/.330/.527 slash line, along with 26 home runs and 85 RBIs.
