Maestro José María Vitier, 2021 National Music Prize winner, received in China the Luzhou 1573 International Prize for the Best Composer of 2025, a recognition that highlights his career and the influence of his work inside and outside of Cuba.
Vitier received the distinction within the framework of the Poetry and Liquor Festival, held in the city of Luzhou, where a jury made up of prestigious composers and professors from the Central Conservatory of Music of China selected the Cuban pianist as the best composer of the year.
From Beijing, Silvia Rodríguez Rivero, wife of artistshared on social networks the emotion for the recognition and the cultural experience of the trip:
“We are struck by the beauty and cultural differences, as well as by the contrast and coexistence of the most modern with the oldest,” he wrote.
He also expressed that they were living the moment “with a tight heart at the entrance of the Cyclone Melissa in eastern Cuba.”
The Cuban embassy in China celebrated the award and highlighted that this recognition of José María Vitier occurs in the context of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Havana and Beijing, a link that has promoted cultural exchange between both countries for decades.
