The president José Jerí took a while to form his cabinet and after receiving several refusals it seems that, finally, today will be the day.
On Sunday, Jerí assured that it would be a “broad-based cabinet of national reconciliation,” which will not be made up of any outgoing congressman or minister. “Experience in public management, knowledge of the sector or having dialogue skills and understanding of our country will prevail”; said in X.
On Monday it would be known that Jesus Salazar, former president of the National Society of Industries, did not accept Jerí’s invitation to be premier. And on Tuesday, very early, minutes before starting a meeting with the mayors of Lima, the president announced that in the next few hours the cabinet will be sworn in.
PNP Colonel Harvey Colchado, former head of the Diviac, also refused to be Minister of the Interior of Jerí, as reported Peru21.
The day before, Jerí surprised everyone by setting his cabinet’s deadline of October 21.
The president said that the postponement of the presentation of the cabinet is due to a strategic decision. “We are taking a break. Because it is true, when they want to put pressure on you it is for something that perhaps they are not receiving or, on the contrary, they want you to make a mistake,” he declared.
WHAT HE SAID AFTER MEETING WITH THE MAYORS OF LIMA
Jerí finished the meeting with the mayors of Lima shortly before noon and mentioned again that the cabinet will be announced in the next few hours.
The mayor of Lima, Renzo Reggiardo, who expressed his support for the head of state, confirmed to the press that the president had personally communicated the decision to them during the meeting.
“He told us that today the new ministers will be sworn in,” said Rafael López Aliaga’s successor.
