The national coordinator of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Offices, Omar Tello, did not rule out requesting the images from the video surveillance cameras from the Government Palace, as part of the preliminary investigation that began for the hiring of five young professionals in various State entities, after meeting directly with President José Jerí.
Tello pointed out that this requirement has already been made before and is within the possibilities that the anti-corruption prosecutor’s office could execute to know the entry, exit, and duration of the visits of these people to the presidential office.
He explained that from the beginning of the investigations, the prosecutor’s office is preparing to collect documentation and that it will have to verify the presence of these people inside the Palace, take statements to find out what the connection is, and will investigate the selection processes that have taken place, so if it becomes necessary, the images of the security teams will be requested from whoever corresponds in the Palace.
Tello pointed out that this investigation is broad and progressive and that it would not necessarily focus on the people involved, so depending on what the investigation requires, it could be expanded.
He clarified, in an interview with Channel N, that this preliminary investigation that began on Tuesday is different from the one that has been carried out against the president for his meetings with Chinese businessmen and that, in the case of authorized officials, the jurisdiction corresponds to the Attorney General, with the already known restrictions.
The fiscal disposition, led by the provincial prosecutor Roxana Inés Espinoza Páucar, has indicated that the case has been opened for the alleged commission of crimes against the public administration. The investigation has been opened in a generic way, that is, against those who are responsible and not directly against the president.
As part of the first steps, the Public Ministry has arranged joint work with the personnel of the Anti-Corruption Directorate (Dircocor) of the National Police of Peru (PNP).
