The president José Jerí spoke out about the censorship that he promotes Congress of the Republic to remove him from office, in the midst of the political crisis due to his clandestine meetings with Chinese businessmen and hiring of women in the presidential office.
During an interview on Panamericana TV, the president announced that he will respect an eventual vacancy if the procedure conforms to what is established in the Constitution.
“Constitutionally speaking – and I speak as a lawyer beyond the investiture -, I was sworn in as President of the Republic under the Constitution. My origin is parliamentary, but I assumed office as President and the corresponding procedure, from the constitutional point of view, is the vacancy. It will be Congress that makes a decision based on the Constitution and the laws. I greatly appeal to the good judgment that Congress has,” said President José Jerí.
