The president of the republic, José Jerícalled the elected president of Chile on Sunday night, José Antonio Kastwho won by a wide margin in the second round over the communist candidate, Jeannette Jara.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the president congratulated the right-winger for his victory and wished him success in his administration. Jerí was accompanied by Foreign Minister Hugo de Zela.
“During the conversation, the ties of friendship between Peru and Chile were highlighted, a bilateral relationship that is based on deep coincidences and political and economic complementarities that have allowed both countries to develop a broad and diverse agenda for the benefit of their populations,” said the Foreign Ministry.
Likewise, it was indicated that “natural coincidences were evident between both leaders, especially in the need to jointly confront criminality and transnational crime.”
The Foreign Ministry reported that President Jerí invited Kast to hold the Peru-Chile Binational Cabinet during the second two months of 2026.
José Antonio Kast won the presidential runoff in Chile with approximately 58.1% of the vote compared to Jeannette Jara’s 41.8%, a difference of more than 16 percentage points.
After the first results were known, the communist candidate called the Republican to congratulate him on his victory. Likewise, the president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, also contacted his successor to congratulate him.
