José Jerí begins his administration with 45% national approval

After a long time, a presidential evaluation survey reflects a percentage of approval higher than the indicator of rejection. According to the Ipsos survey for América TV broadcast last night on Cuarto Poder, the president José Jeríwith just two weeks of administration, obtains 45% support, compared to 42% who disapprove. 13% do not specify.

In Lima, his approval reaches 49%. In the interior of the country, however, his support drops to 43%, exactly the same as his disapproval.

Since he assumed power by constitutional succession, on October 10, after the vacancy of Dina Boluarte Due to permanent moral incapacity, Jerí has established a style completely opposite to her predecessor, with a direct and permanent dialogue with the media, using digital channels to interact with citizens, and visiting in situ spaces that need attention, such as that fire in Pamplona Alta or searches in prisons.

The Ipsos survey also reveals that 78% agree that Jerí declared a state of emergency in Lima on October 22, due to growing citizen insecurity.

During the Boluarte government, states of emergency were declared nine times, but there were no results. Even the infamous Juan José Santiváñez, then Minister of the Interior, was censured for his deplorable management of the sector. In fact, 82% support the dismissal of Boluarte, whose departure occurred after the unfortunate incident at the Agua Marina concert in Chorrillos.

Jerí promised to spend the days that his state of emergency lasts on the street and carry out unexpected operations during the early mornings. On October 24, he visited the Alfonso Ugarte Police Station, in Breña, and did not find the commissioner. “I am very surprised by the behavior of this police station. They should be on alert,” he declared that day, visibly uncomfortable.

ELECTORAL MOVES

The Ipsos survey also consulted on presidential voting intentions for the April 2026 elections. At the moment, Rafael López Aliaga obtains 9%. They are followed by Keiko Fujimori and Mario Vizcarra, both with 7%.

Carlos Álvarez appears in fourth place with 4%, followed by Alfonso López Chau, Carlos Espá, Yonhy Lescano, César Acuña, Phillip Butters, Víctor Andrés García Belaunde and Rafael Belaunde, all with 2%. The white, flawed and none reaches 37%.

Compared to the Ipsos measurement from the beginning of October, López Aliaga and Vizcarra go down one point, while Keiko goes up one point. Carlos Álvarez also drops, although he remains in the same place. Meanwhile, Acuña and Butters disappear from the first frame to give space to López Chau and Espá. There is still a lot of bread to be sliced.

PLEASE NOTE

  • Big difference. On October 1, Ipsos published the latest presidential evaluation survey of Dina Boluarte. His approval reached a tiny 3%.
  • It started badly. In January 2023, a few days after assuming the presidency, Boluarte obtained only 20% approval in the Ipsos poll.
