“We will have a new strategy, in force based on the principle of reality to precisely continue fighting citizen insecurity,” said the head of state, who did not rule out that the multisectoral entity could make some modifications to the document.
Along the same lines, the president announced that, as part of a crime prevention policy that includes young people, actions such as incentives for sports will be implemented. “It has to be a state policy to keep our children and young people away from this temptation.”
“Crime has overwhelmed us at times. Here there has to be a balance between the preventive and reactive part. In the reactive part we have states of emergency, which are a tool,” he explained, despite the fact that, according to the data analyst, Juan Carbajalrevealed that the figures of the Peru with or without a state of emergency they are not so different.
Penitentiary system would also have changes
On the other hand, Jerí mentioned that they will carry out work with the National Superintendency of Internment and Resocialization (SUNIR), entity that replaces the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE), to implement measures in penitentiary centers. “Sunir is the way to return the principle of authority that has been lost within prisons,” he said.
“We are not going to restrict ourselves, rather. Any action we have to take, appealing to our autonomy, our sovereignty. We have to make the decisions that allow us to return tranquility to the country, not look good with international organizations,” he said.
Among the priorities announced by the president, he highlighted the situation of signal blockers in prisons, because not all of them have the technology to fight crime.
