MADRID, Spain.- The relatives of Cuban political prisoner José Daniel Ferrer expressed concern for the opponent’s life. They have not heard from him for more than a month, as the regime prohibits him from calling and visiting the Mar Verde prison.
“A few minutes ago I received the worrying news that there was no visit with José Daniel Ferrer”, said this Wednesday his sister, Ana Belkis Ferrer.
The opponent explained from social networks that the leader of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU) had scheduled a visit, announced by the authorities themselves, for this April 5. However, when Nelva Ismarays Ortega, the wife of José Daniel Ferrer, arrived at the prison with her children, she was not allowed to see him.
“They only accepted the box of food and hygiene products and prevented the family meeting,” explained Ana Belkis Ferrer, who had shared photos of the family member on her way to the prison.
“We hold Raúl Castro, Díaz-Canel and their executioners responsible for repressing and annihilating my brave and self-sacrificing brother responsible for what is happening and we demand not only that they be able to hear and see him and that the torture against him cease, but also his immediate and unconditional release and that of all political prisoners,” he declared.
José Daniel Ferrer was arrested on July 11, 2021 (11J) when he was preparing to join the popular demonstrations. They transferred him to a cell in the Versalles torture center, and at the beginning of August they sent him from there to the Mar Verde prison, where he has been since then and without a trial date.
During all this time, the prison authorities have kept him in a cell in inhuman, cruel and degrading conditions, isolated from the penal community and subjected to repudiation rallies, despite his delicate state of health.
