MADRID, Spain.- The leader of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU) and political prisoner, José Daniel Ferrer, is on a hunger strike to express his opposition to the San Remo Music Awards (SRMA), which began this Monday, promoted by Lis Cuesta Peraza, wife of ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel.
As reported through Twitter Ana Belkis Ferrer García, sister of the opponent, José Daniel Ferrer, has been without eating food since April 5 and will continue until April 10.
Jose Daniel Ferrer imprisoned since July 11, 2021 for his attempt to participate in the peaceful anti-government demonstrations that took place throughout Cuba, he has carried out this strike in “rejection of the festival of San Remo, the injustices, the violations of Human Rights and demanding the freedom of artists imprisoned for political reasons”, Ana Belkis Ferrer specified.

On December 17, the Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders (OPDDH), launched a campaign in favor of José Daniel Ferrer.
Ferrer “is detained in an isolation cell, without windows, access to the outside, or contact with the rest of the detainees. In the cell there is no air or natural light, but it is illuminated by strong artificial light that affects his eyes. The food he receives is in a state of decomposition (…) and he is forced to wear only underwear, ”the Observatory condemned.
