Havana Cuba. — After months of suffering abuse in prison despite the constant complaints filed by his relatives, the political prisoner José Daniel Ferrer has recovered part of the rights that had been violated by the Castro regime in order to break his political convictions.
In a post published last week in social networksAna Belkis Ferrer, sister of the inmate, announced that the dictatorship has allowed Ferrer, for the first time in sixteen months of confinement, access to paper and pencil, in addition to ten minutes a week of telephone conversation with his relatives inside the island.
Likewise, the regime has agreed to allow visits from their loved ones every twenty-five days, and a monthly conjugal meeting; but only if Ferrer agrees to wear the prisoner’s uniform, a condition to which the opponent continues to refuse.
The leader of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU), who was arrested during the popular protests on July 11, 2021, remains semi-naked and in solitary confinement in the Mar Verde prison, in the province of Santiago de Cuba.
The notorious opponent suffers from gastric problems that have worsened due to poor nutrition in Cuban prisons, and a couple of months ago he also suffered from bursitis. In the latest images that have circulated on social networks, he appears visibly deteriorated.
José Daniel Ferrer has been deprived of his liberty since July 11, 2021. He was arrested that day when he tried to join the anti-government protests that took place in that city and that had aftershocks in most of the country’s territories.
