José Blanco: The agony

we went to Mexico a diverse political and intellectual group, structurally supported by large economic forces, who decided to eradicate the Mexican corporate state administered by the PRI, and succeeded, to some extent. The impulse arose from the neoliberal current of the PRI itself, which had been taking shape in the bowels of the corporate State for some three decades. The last step to give access to the neoliberal current was provided by Miguel de la Madrid, amid economic convulsions caused by a fierce external debt crisis. Carlos Salinas then rose to state power in December 1988, through electoral fraud, who embodied the neoliberal idea, then predominant in the world, promoted by the United States.

The change to displace the corporate State brought with it, among other decisions, the marriage of the PRI and the PAN, and the rapid creation of a new organic intellectual elite that soon highlighted Enrique Krauze and Héctor Aguilar Camín as its most visible heads. an operation that involved almost all the press and audiovisual media, through contracts and rivers of corrupt money.

Some bases of the corporate state, such as sectors of the PRI (CTM/Labor Congress, CNC, CNOP) and its leaders, were preserved and turned into operators of the PRIANRDfor the implementation of the neoliberal project. The political determination included the transfer of the market to the center of decisions, the corrupt privatization of State companies, the cultural creation by the neoliberal individual, the organization of the so-called democratic transition. The brand new neoliberal State would respond to the interests of the PRI and the PAN, and the sectors of the PRI would bring electoral legitimation closer with their corrupt arts. PRI and PAN, alternately (in the caricature likeness of Democrats and Republicans in the US), would protect the implementation of the neoliberal project that, it was believed, would put an end to history. Organisms were created self-employed ad hoc for the project, consistent with the new light that illuminated the world. All contentexcept that the “ tutti”They excluded the people of Mexico.

Starting in 2008/2009, the neoliberal project changed its path, showed its peremptory limit and began to plummet. All over the world. The US has become anti-globalist and its neoliberal political parties are left without clues about how to manage the future. The European Union is moving freely towards disunity. In Mexico, the lack of real legitimacy of the project, its weak foundations based on parties empty of people, rampant corruption, and barbaric exclusion based on historical exclusion, ultimately produced the agony of the project and the neoliberal State.

The architects, promoters and ideologues of the institutions of the neoliberal project now live in limbo. At this point they don’t know what happened. A bulldozer ran over them, but their lost souls think they are immortal in the face of the bulldozers. The neoliberal project is defeated, but the neoliberals became fruitless defenders of this or that neoliberal institution, depending on each person’s insertion in politics. They are not resigned to the ongoing death of the project and its institutions, which, in many cases, is still in the process of happening, such as the Supreme Court, still dedicated to defending corrupt private interests, such as the case of Salinas Pliego.

Now we have economic and political interests without political representation. The PRI and the PAN no longer serve them, but they continue to speak in neoliberal language and demand corrupt benefits: they preach in the desert for their return to the neoliberal project. Sterile preaching. What the wind of the people – and the votes of Morena – took away, left never to return. The organic intellectuals of the project denounce the acts of barbarism and destruction perpetrated by the Morena governmentignoring the millions of votes that support the decisions that the current government converts into institutional facts. They do not like the democracy of the present, a product of the rules made by the PRIAN.

The incontrovertible power of PRIANwho imposed his decisions without regard, dried up. It doesn’t exist anymore. The domination of that political coalition was emptied of all legitimacy, if it ever had any. A storm of votes brought it down. PRI and PAN have a largely ghostly existence. Ergo, it has its organic intellectual apparatus and its representatives who believe in the institutions of the agonizing project.

In such conditions, it becomes remote that there could be a substantive agreement regarding government programs between Morena and the opposition parties and their organic intellectuals. The clearest expression of this impossibility lies in a political speech like that of Marko Cortés demanding that he be given general directorates, universities, notaries, as compensation for his political services. And, apparently, the corruption of Alito surpasses Marko’s.
