Factoría Habana invites you to the exhibition «José Rosabal. The lightning line” that will open this May 12, at 5 pm, curated by Concha Fontenla.
This space for contemporary experimentation and creation attached to the Office of the Historian announces this exhibition after 58 years of absence by the Cuban-American artist José Ángel Rosabal Fajardo (Manzanillo, 1935).
Historical and recent works, in different techniques and formats that summarize sixty years of artistic work behind which a masterful command of the line is perceived, emphasized by its fluidity and creative dynamism.
Rosabal has developed her work from a fascination for painting, engraving and textile design, interested and guided by experimentation with shapes and mastery of color or attracted by abstraction in the work of Serge Poliakoff.
Invited in 1960 by Sandú Darié and Salvador Corratgè, he joined the group of “Los 10 Pintores Concretos” created in Havana by Loló Soldevilla at the end of the 50’s.
José Rosabal’s artistic practice has been internationally recognized, fundamentally linked to the evolution and development of Geometric Abstraction in Latin America; This concept is challenged in this exhibition by presenting historical works that explore various investigative paths, from Abstract Informalism to Pop, made in Cuba while he was working with Antonia Eiriz or Umberto Peña.
The organization of this exhibition has been possible thanks to the contributions of different people and institutions: a selection of works that José Rosabal keeps in his Havana home; the Experimental Graphics Workshop of Havana, Casa de las Américas and the National Museum of Fine Arts of Cuba.
