The decrease of the insecurity and economic stability, as well as standing firm against populism, are issues that the president of the Confiep, Jorge Zapatahopes that they will be a priority for the Government.
What is the position of the business community regarding the vacancy and the entry of José Jerí?
Unfortunately, we are still in instability and that is not good for investments. We need investments to generate more employment, so that people have a better economic situation and we can reduce poverty. We now call for dialogue because things are being done in a hurry and that is not good. The vacancy was processed in a matter of hours when we could have gone through a more orderly process.
Will this affect private investment?
Without a doubt, it is a difficult situation, it is a complex moment for big decisions, but we will see how the new government behaves in the coming days. The most important thing to do is appoint a cabinet of first-level or highest-level technicians possible and that could give some stability to the country. It has to be a cabinet that has the necessary expertise to combat the citizen insecurity that overwhelms us.
What should be the profile of the next Minister of Economy?
We need a minister with a lot of professional solvency, with experience and who will stand firm in the face of these populist requests that unfortunately are likely to increase in these months until the elections and change of government.
Do we also need an MEF that allocates more money to insecurity and less to Petroperú?
Today, insecurity, violence, organized crime must be combated and it is the main issue that worries citizens. All of this requires resources and we must stop giving it to the bottomless barrel that is Petroperú.
What proposals will they make?
We must focus on fundamental issues: controlling citizen insecurity and reducing insecurity; guarantee free and democratic elections; and maintain economic stability. We need to strengthen the democratic system as well as the institutions that are very weak and that requires professional management of the public apparatus.
Do we also need an Executive that stands firm in the face of populism?
That is one of the great challenges of the new government and we, the business associations and you, the press, must be very attentive so that these populist projects that are proliferating today do not prosper. We must denounce and point out the impact that these initiatives have on the macroeconomy because in the end this ends up being a 100% Congress government.
Are they going to seek to meet with the new management?
Let’s see the formation of the cabinet. The State and economic policy proposals are at the disposal of this Government.
