Jorge Yamamoto about José Jerí: "He is lying to us in a very blatant way."

The social psychologist, Jorge Yamamoto, analyzed the president’s responses José Jerí before the interrogation unleashed by the so-called ‘Chifagate’ case, in which the president has been involved after a series of images were revealed in which he held secret meetings with a Chinese businessman, both in a chifa and in his store.

Yamamoto recognized a pattern that José Jerí has maintained throughout the interviews and interrogations to which he has been subjected since the scandal of his secret meeting at the restaurant of Chinese businessman Zhihua Yang, located in San Luis, broke out.

“A lie is a narrative that is constructed and reconstructed on the fly. In contrast to the truth, which is a coherent narrative that is remembered once and repeated as is several times. So, this pattern is very clear here, because when one tells the truth, one remembers what happened, but when one lies one feels cornered and then tries to find pieces at hand that will get one out of trouble.”says Yamamoto.

“Some time passes and he realizes that he made a mistake and is going to try to fix it. He fixes it and suddenly he reviews the video and there are some paintings, so now he becomes a collector of paintings and so on. That is a very clear pattern. When interviews are done in the field of organizations with suspicious people, that pattern is very typical, but also a series of gestures that we have been seeing [en el presidente]”he adds.

The expert points out that to analyze the president, you first have to draw a line of his profile. Here it stands out that José Jerí is not known for being a “great statesman” but rather he is known as “a great lobbyist” and for “not fighting with anyone.” In that sense, what we see after the period of “optimism” that came after Dina Boluarte’s vacancy, is her lobbyist habit.

“Everything we have seen corresponds coherently with that profile. At what time he visits, after Christmas and during the Three Kings Day, what is customary there: his little gift. Then, he goes to a closed establishment, goes immediately and begins to resonate with someone. It is the typical profile of getting on well with someone who has done him favors and who will continue to do him favors later. That profile of a lobbyist is clear”says Yamamoto.

LEVELS OF LIARS

The social psychologist clarifies that three levels of people who fail to tell the truth could be identified according to their abilities to lie and maintain their lies: Amateur, pro and mythomaniac. Each of these levels can be recognized by establishing a profile of the person in question and even with the use of polygraphs. In Jerí’s case, the expert considers him an amateur liar.

“The amateur liar, and here we have an example, is the one who invents things as he goes along. [Al presidente] The journalist corrects him and he corrects himself, and that is an extreme level of low intelligence, as well as low morality. He also makes a mistake because he accepts that he receives gifts, ‘I receive paintings, like many people who are kind enough to give me gifts,’ he says. And that is illegal. Then he screws up.

Then we have a more pro liar, which we have seen in history, who has a more solid speech, they do not get nervous, they do not frown, but their face does not change, they do not show a series of signs of tension which, by the way, is what appears on a polygraph.

And there is a third level which is the mythomaniac, who is already a person who is wired to detach himself from reality and put together lie after lie in a way that can become pathological.”

A CHANGING IMAGE

In another part of the interview, the expert emphasized the changing appearance and the growing tension that is evident in President Jerí as the questions become more incisive, leading him to make errors in his answers, a key indication of lying.

“Here we have the case of someone who notices that he is, we are not going to say collapsing, but his image has changed drastically… Here you don’t have to take a polygraph, anyone realizes that he is getting tense, how he starts off relaxed and when they start asking him questions, his degree of tension escalates.”

“In my perception he has not answered anything. He has evaded the questions and continues with this pattern of a lie that is built and reconstructed, that goes around many times and does not finish answering… There are some half-dangerous indicators, obviously more information is missing, but when he mentions the friend of the Chinese businessman and says that he does not speak Spanish and that he was serving food when this man has given interviews in Spanish on television and has an official translator certificate. That is already such an unintelligent lie that one tells either he lacks a lot of intelligence or he is already a liar of extreme degree”.

“I think the good news here is that he is a bad liar, the bad news is that he is lying to us in a very blatant way”, Yamamoto sentenced.
