Jorge Téllez Mendoza, former general editor of Portfolio, died

Jorge Tellez Mendoza he was economic editor of El Espectador in the 70s and 80s, where he was for more than a decade, general editor of Portafolio in 1998, and one of the pioneers of economic journalism in Colombia.

In addition, he was news director of the Ciep news agency, founded by the Lloreda family in Bogotá, which fed news to most regional newspapers and media. And he had a step through the Nariño Palace in the presidency of Lleras Restrepo. He was also press officer for the Liberal party.

Owner and founder of Pronter, a communications consulting company, and of Diariofax, one of the forerunners of daily information for corporate and specialized clients.

Jorge Téllez Mendoza wrote several books on economics, politics, and journalism. One of the most remembered is “The Threads of Power” in the Barco Government.

His career led him to be the winner of several journalism awards, including the Simón Bolívar.

His main mentors and bosses were Guillermo Cano and José Salgar; and among his great colleagues and friends are Jaime Viana, Antonio Andraus, Oscar Alarcón, Javier Ayala, Silverio Gómez, Juan Álvaro Castellanos.

His greatest pride was his two children: Juana Tellez, chief economist at BBVA, and Mauricio Tellez, communications manager at Ecopetrol.
