He is one of the most frequent guests at the Santa Cruz International Film Festival (Fenavid). In the 22nd edition of the film event could not miss the Argentine actor and teacher Jorge Román, who this year participated with an acting laboratory and presented his book I live the cinema, notes not to act.
“This first book is the transcript of a workshop, of acting training. It is essentially practical. When it comes to what he has achieved in acting, Jorge Román considers himself lucky. There are several reasons that he has to say so. One of them has to do with the moment in which he decided to be an act.r, which coincided with the time when the so-called new Argentine cinema emerged, in the mid-90s.
The film industry of the neighboring country received a breath of fresh air, with young directors, such as Pablo Trapero, Lucrecia Martel, Adrián Caetano and Daniel Burman, who managed to introduce new narrative elements and a marked realistic style to the stories.

History says that Jorge’s vocation as an artist was kept a secret for many years. in the early 90s arrived in Buenos Aires from his native Palo Santo in the province of Formosa, after becoming a professor of Educational Sciences at the Universidad del Nordeste. He had previously worked as a teaching assistant in Formosa.
When he went to the capital, his friends and family imagined that he was going to do a postgraduate degree. No one knew that he wanted to be an actor, Roman had been in charge of hiding his longing because he did not want to generate expectations of any kind. He was 30 years old when he started studying theaterwhile looking for work in the environment, took courses and appeared at castings, while giving private lessons.
After a few jobs on television and advertising, he debuted in the movie Congratulations, directed by Lucho Bender. After The Buenos Airescame tapes like Potrero, The lie, My best enemy, Northeast and Ulises.
until in 2019 one of his greatest challenges is presented: interpreting the stormy life of Carlos Monzónone of the greatest idols of Argentine boxing, in a miniseries produced by Space and distributed by Disney.
“It was very hard to play Monzón, because you had to go through hell with that man. It was inevitable not to stay trembling many times, because there is a lot of violence. The series is very well told, moreover, from the point of view of production and aesthetics, it is impeccable”.
“If I hadn’t acted well in movies, I would have had to dedicate myself to something else, because, the truth is, I got very talented directors. If there is any merit of mine, it is that I put all my love into every project I took on, be it a small or large project. That’s the secret, when I say love, I say be professional, be supportive; Otherwise, don’t do it.”
Roman is not in favor of a method to act, he prefers to think about people and personalities. “Each one adapts to the circumstances, so if an actor adapts to a method and the result is good, then you have to leave it and recommend the school of Strasberg or Meisner, or Stanislavski, etc. I remember once, talking to Lázaro Ramos, the Brazilian actor from Madame Sata, he told me: ‘I invent a method for each character’. That is what it is about, but also that the trainer helps the student to enter and exit easily, because this is fiction and there is a risk of compromising your most intimate being, ”she concludes.
