Jorge Rodríguez was ratified as president of the National Assembly

During the first plenary session of the National Assembly held this Thursday, January 5, as established by the National Constitution, Deputy Jorge Rodríguez was ratified as president for a new parliamentary period 2023-2024.

The first Vice-Presidency will be assumed by Deputy Pedro Infante and the second Vice-Presidency by Deputy América Pérez, both from the Bloque de la Patria.

The proposal of the Bloque de la Patria in support of the nomination of the citizen Rosalba Gil as secretary of the National Assembly for the period 2023-2024 and the proposal of the Bloque de la Patria in support of the nomination of the citizen María Alejandra Hernández as the sub-secretary of the National Assembly for the period 2023-2024.

The swearing in of the president of the National Assembly for the 2023-2024 legislative period, Jorge Rodríguez, was in charge of spokespersons for popular power.

Among those present are: Antonio Ramón Briceño Jiménez from the construction workers sector; Victoria Guerrero, athlete. fencer of the sword special, athlete of the youth team of Venezuela, with two Gold medals in the South American Games Rosario, Argentina 2022; Hermes Suárez, peasant, member of the Comunidades organization in command of the Cocorote de Yaracuy municipality, and Isabela Montiel, representative of the indigenous peoples, specifically the Inga people, leader of the Cacique Guaicaipuro Indigenous Front.

Subsequently, the deputy Jorge Rodríguez, after being sworn in as the new president of Parliament for the period 2023-2024, Rodrígez proceeded to swear in the first and second vice president of the National Assembly and the Secretary and Undersecretary of the new parliament.

The debate

At the beginning of the session this Thursday, January 5, the deputy Grecia Colmenares, from the state of Táchira, served as accidental secretary during the installation of the new Board of Directors art 194 of the Magna Carta and the internal regulations and debates of the AN

After having verified the quorum, the secretary and the director of debates asked those present for their approval to proceed with the election of the new Board of Directors for the period 2023-2024.

Subsequently, on instructions from the director of the debate, Deputy Jorge Rodríguez, the accidental secretary read article 194 of the Magna Carta and the articles. 6,7 and 8 Internal Regulations and Debates of the National Assembly.

Deputy Diosdado Cabello, representing the Bloque de la Patria, took the floor and after highlighting the work of the National Assembly during this last period, at the beginning of his speech he stressed: “I have no doubt that I give 100 points to this National Assembly, my appreciation to deputies after the attacks against our country. This National Assembly led by Jorge Rodríguez has had representation at the international level.

He indicated that the Legislative Branch is “a power represented by all the deputies, there is no other space, beyond those who love to live on fantasies and dreams. Here the right to express oneself is respected.

He added that within the National Assembly “political and public debate takes place, without any type of tapestry.”

After acknowledging the progress and merits of the outgoing Board of Directors before the national and international stages, Cabello said: “Just as we have done in other years, we make a proposal to the country for the Board of Directors.”

In this sense, he proposed for the presidency the current deputy Jorge Rodríguez, who holds the position of President of Parliament.

“I propose for the presidency that Deputy Jorge Rodríguez continue to fulfill his functions, who must be recognized for his effort, work, dedication, patience, and tolerance,” he emphasized.

He stressed that «Jorge Rodríguez has been at the forefront of the national dialogue and has also participated. This AN has gained its historical figuration after the period occupied by the oppositionists.

As for the first vice-presidency, compañero Pedro Infante is proposed, and for the second vice-presidency, América Pérez.

Likewise, he thanked two colleagues Iris Varela and Vanessa Montero “for the work they have done and continue to do, thank you very much. This is our proposal to lead the Bolivarian National Assembly.

For his part, deputy Pedro Carreño stressed that the current AN has worked to retake the institutionality and constitutionality of Parliament, and that is its strength. “We don’t need imperialism to recognize us. We are interested in the fact that it is the people who recognize us, “he stressed.

Opposition proposals

For the opposition bench it was the turn of deputy Luis Augusto Romero to present a second option. In his speech, Deputy Romero highlighted the responsibility assumed by the deputies of the National Assembly to “legislate based on national interests, the interests of the Venezuelan people.” In this regard, he particularly highlighted the responsibility they assumed to dismantle the device of violence activated in the country two years ago.

«This opposition is a democratic, nationalist opposition and deeply committed to the interest of the country. This is an opposition that does not receive lines from any capital in the world, from any foreign interest,” said the deputy when presenting the proposal of the opposition sector to the Board of Directors of the AN.

In this way, for the presidency of the National Assembly he proposed deputy Anyeli Tamayo, whom he highlighted as an expression of young leadership. For the first Vice Presidency he proposed Deputy Alfonso Campos, while for the second Vice Presidency he proposed the name of Deputy Miguel Salazar de Copei.
