Jorge Rodríguez: the media must defend the truth about Venezuela

The secretary of the National Council for Sovereignty and Peace, Jorge Rodríguez, assured that “Venezuela is currently safer than the United States”, such statements were made during the installation of the Media Chapter, an event held in the José Félix Ribas room of the Teresa Carreño Theater with the presence of representatives and directors of the country’s main media.

The also president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, stated that the media have the task of showing and defending the truth and reality of the country and highlighted that at a time where social networks “are controlled by agents of infamy and communication”, the value of the truth is further amplified, so the Venezuelan people must be immunized against lies and violence.

In Rodríguez’s opinion, all the aggression of the US empire is based on lies and he denounced the existence of a communication war against Venezuela, driven from abroad, for which he called to defend peace in the communication war against Venezuela.

He stressed that the threats, sanctions and blockades do not affect only one sector of the population, but everyone equally, since the implementation of the economic war by North American imperialism against the country impacted all Venezuelans.

Drug trafficking and international double discourse

Rodríguez questioned the United States Government’s narrative on the fight against drug trafficking, pointing out that “if they really wanted to fight it, they should start in their own territory, where the large laboratories responsible for the opioid epidemic operate.”

Citing a report from The New York Times, he recalled that 85% of the drugs that enter the United States do so through the Pacific Ocean, not the Caribbean Sea. In an ironic tone, he stated that drug traffickers from Colombia, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic and Mexico “should feel favored” by US military actions in the Caribbean, which allow them free transit.

He also denounced that part of the money from drug trafficking is laundered in Panama through the construction of “ghost buildings”, which demonstrates the money laundering that exists in capitalism.

Communication war and international perception

The Secretary of the Council pointed out that the adversaries of the Bolivarian Revolution have insisted that the situation in Venezuela is unsustainable, but that this “is contradicted by the visit of tourists who tour the country and verify that there is a disinformation campaign.”

Rodríguez reiterated that Venezuela is safer than the US and several Latin American countries, and that sanctions, blockades and threats affect the entire population equally.

In that sense, he insisted on the call to the media to “show and defend the truth and reality of the country.”

Role of media and social networks

Rodríguez affirmed that the media have the responsibility of counteracting the communication war and amplifying the value of the truth. In a context where “social networks are controlled by agents of infamy,” he urged the Venezuelan people to “immunize themselves against lies and violence.”

Rodríguez exalted the importance of forming a chapter of the media within the Council, highlighting that the political color of each one does not matter, because in his opinion, “what really matters is defending Venezuela; from truth, ethics and commitment to Venezuela.”

Jorge Rodríguez reiterated that “all the aggression of the American empire is based on lies,” and that the defense of peace begins with the construction of a sovereign narrative from the national media.

He said that what should move the people is the defense of idiosyncrasy, what is common to us as a country. Likewise, he highlighted that Venezuela has 3 characteristics, which are joy, hope and freedom and that some extremist sectors have wanted to violate.

Channels such as Venevisión, Televen, Tves, VTV, Últimas Noticias, Hinterlaces, the Venezuelan Chamber of the Broadcasting Industry, Globovisión, El Universal participated in the meeting; among others, who expressed their satisfaction at being included in the National Council for Sovereignty and Peace, highlighting that this participation is key to strengthening the defense of truth and national identity, as well as the preservation and construction of peace, in the midst of threats from the United States Government, which uses the fight against drug trafficking in the Caribbean as a pretext.

Finally, Rodríguez assured that it is comforting and hopeful, not only the presence of all the participants, but also the tone of the interventions and the common thread that has guided the entire meeting with the media, reflecting a spirit of unity and national commitment.

all together

Gustavo Perdomo, Director of Globovisión and El Universal, stressed during his speech that the constant media and psychological attacks that the Venezuelan population faces must be faced with a unified communication strategy, in which all media work together to combat this scourge with the truth, showing the essence of the Venezuelan people and promoting messages that strengthen awareness, hope and national unity and expressed the commitment of the media that it represents. with the defense of the sovereignty and peace of the Bolivarian nation.

The president of the Venezuelan Chamber of Broadcasting Industry, Ángel Pinto Vaamonde, recalled that Venezuela has gone through various adversities and, in addition, pointed out a historical moment that profoundly marked the role of the media, especially radio: The contingency of COVID-19, where the responsibility of closeness and attachment to the Venezuelan audience was evident.

In this context, he indicated that today the media faces a different chapter in the country’s contemporary history, which requires greater responsibility, commitment and professional height. Without demonizing the role of social networks, he stressed that the radio must rise to the moment, with announcers, producers, radio broadcasters and businessmen committed to elevating what we are as Venezuelans and offering solutions that accompany the tranquility of the Venezuelan people.

As a representative of the alternative media, Abraham Aparicio, from the Son de Sucre Movement, from the parish of Petare, Miranda state, who explained that they work under three fundamental tasks: Defense of the Homeland, dismantling the lies and disseminating the achievements of the Revolution and made reference to the communication management that the Son de Sucre Movement does with the 32 popular communication organizations, among them: Ciudad Bendita and Ciudad Petare.
