Jorge Rodríguez proposes regulating social networks and resuming the debate on NGOs

Rodríguez indicated that Parliament will suspend the parliamentary recess and from this August 13 will dedicate itself to working on the creation and approval of a package of laws “to be able to care for and defend our population from hatred, terrorism and the dissemination of fascist ideas and ideas of hate.”

The president of the National Assembly (AN) in 2020, Jorge Rodríguez, proposed the creation of laws to regulate the operation of social networks in Venezuela. The parliamentarian asserted that the owners of these platforms have allied themselves with “fascism” to threaten the peace of the country.

Rodriguez indicated that the Parliament will suspend the parliamentary recess and from this Tuesday, August 13, will dedicate itself to working on the creation and approval of a package of laws “to be able to care for and defend our population from hatred, terrorism and the spread of fascist ideas and ideas of hatred.”

He added that on August 13 they will discuss and possibly approve the bill on the supervision of non-governmental organizations. “There are organizations like the Red Cross that serve the people, but there are others that are fronts for the financing of terrorist actions.”

Rodriguez stressed that there are countries around the world that have begun to regulate the use of networks, including some nations in the European Union.

The president of the 2020 National Assembly participated in a meeting of the State Security Council in which figures were updated on human and infrastructure losses due to the protests that took place between July 29 and 30 in rejection of the results given by the National Electoral Council (CNE) in which President Nicolás Maduro was named the winner of the presidential elections.

At the meeting, the prosecutor appointed by the defunct constituent assembly, Tarek Williams Saab, reported that 25 people were killed and 192 wounded in the clashes that took place during those days. He stated that those arrested for the murders will be charged with homicide, criminal association, illegal possession of weapons and terrorism.

He noted that most of the murders occurred in the Capital District and Aragua.
