The president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, affirmed that the country is a people of peace, but not of submission and reiterated that they want a “free people.” He insisted that the US wants to promote a war in Venezuela to take over the resources

The president of the National AssemblyJorge Rodríguez, said he was willing to give his own life if there was a foreign intervention in the country. He asserted that if an aggression occurs through air, land or sea space, they will fight.

“Be absolutely certain that we are going to fight and that we have nothing else to give, even if it is our own life, to defend the sacred territory of Venezuela,” Rodríguez declared during his speech at the Assembly of the people for the sovereignty and peace of our America this Tuesday, December 9.

The statement was given as part of a speech in which, again, he accused Donald Trump’s administration of promoting “a war to devastate Venezuela”, with the objective, according to the ruling party, of appropriating resources such as the nation’s gold, oil and water. According to Rodríguez, the ideas of the United States are only supported by “vassals” of the region and very few Venezuelans.

On the other hand, Jorge Rodríguez criticized the anti-drug fight that the US maintains in the Caribbean and for which it made extensive military deployment and described it as “hypocritical” because he argued that between 2006 and 2016, the illicit drug market would have generated 1.6 trillion dollars, resources that, according to him, end up in US banks, real estate developments in Florida and tax havens.

The president of Parliament also criticized the recent operations against ships in the Caribbean, which he described as “extrajudicial executions.” He stated that more than 80 people had been murdered in four months without due process and assured that Washington admits having destroyed evidence of drug trafficking with bombings.

“If you want to bomb something, bomb the headquarters of Purdue Pharma, responsible for the opioid epidemic,” said Rodríguez, blaming American corporations for the rise of fentanyl.

“We are people of peace, but not on our knees”

Although he insisted that Venezuela “is a people of peace,” Rodríguez stressed that this peace does not imply submission. In this regard, he highlighted that at the initiative of Nicolás Maduro, a National Council for Peace was established which, he stated, brings together diverse sectors.

«We do not want the peace of the kneeling or the submissive. We want the peace of free peoples,” he stressed.

In that sense, Foreign Minister Yván Gil assured that the response to the “aggression” of the United States must be the “revolutionary offensive” and the construction of a movement that can respond to “imperialism” and its allies.

The People’s Assembly, according to the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), will be held in Caracas between this Tuesday and next Thursday, with international delegations who will discuss various topics such as “peace versus militarization of Latin America and the Caribbean”, “economic war and political extortion”, as well as “unilateral coercive measures, punitive tariffs and financial asphyxiation against the people.”

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, stated Nicolás Maduro, has his days “numbered” and did not rule out a possible land invasion of Venezuela.
