Jorge Querey, presidential candidate for the “New Republic” movement, responds to questions that link his duo Euclides Acevedo to Chartism. He affirms that precisely, the condition to form a team was that there was no rapprochement with that sector of the ANR. Likewise, he was confident that they will win the next elections.
The questions that Euclid receives for a supposed rapprochement with Chartism, how is he taking it?
I believe that there is a series of ongoing communication initiatives to try to damage the image of the Euclides-Querey duo. And I think that it can be recorded in different areas that there is no possibility on our part to link ourselves to the criminal structure of Chartism. That is a null hypothesis, starting from the frontal combat base, for my part I can attest, all the work, all the effort, the risks assumed to confront the criminal structures and organizations of the country, money laundering, of the illicit traffic of cigarettes, drug traffic, etc. From what corresponded to me from the Chamber of Senators. I am very clear and that has been a condition that we have discussed, dialogues are always important in politics for any sector. But what has been clear from the beginning, when we have talked with Euclides Acevedo, has been that there will be no possibility of any kind of rapprochement with Chartism.
How are your aspirations for the next elections?
I believe that we are following the work agenda that we have proposed to reach April 30 in the best possible way, we did a lot of work until December that was to structure work teams at the national level in practically all the districts that today are operating, acting, carrying the messages and the effort to link citizens with the proposals we have. We have very clear proposals to break the tradition of these leaderships of the traditional parties that have instituted this country in the situation we are in and we do not believe that any reformulation strategy can be given based on this, of the functioning structure here in Paraguay, both from the social, political and economic point of view as well as from the criminal point of view. We believe that politics has been influenced by criminal networks, by the crossing of interests at different times, which include money, influence peddling and other things that damage the possibility of a better life for citizens.
Euclides was in Colorado governments, including the current one, where the president left without questioning. What guarantees do you have that your partner will not be functional to the system based on this background?
We propose a tricolor government, red, white and blue, we summon the people, whatever their color. We are not asking you to remove the handkerchief from your neck, which is that in a vision that strategic agreements are necessary, among all sectors to get ahead, we believe in that need. A minister who has served in Colorado governments is not strange to me. In the Lugo government we have had more than 50% Red ministers, 40% Liberals and 10% from the progressive sector. I don’t find it strange. There are cases like that of Dionisio Borda who was in Colorado governments and is held in high esteem by me.
There is not a single complaint against Euclides Acevedo regarding acts of corruption. Therefore, any questions that may arise are of a strictly political nature and the opinion of the interested sectors.
Realistically, won’t they end up splitting the opposition votes?
No, I believe that eventually other sectors of the so-called opposition could subtract votes from us.
Why did you decide to squander your renowned career in the Senate, to form this presidential badge?
It is your concept that I am squandering. It is very clear to me that I completed a stage in the legislature. And I also realize that the prosecution of criminal organizations is absolutely necessary to have the pen, it plays a fundamental role in addition to the judicial one. It has all the tools to build a society where criminal organizations do not have that possibility. I believe that it is a step forward, an effort, everything is delivered in the legislative effort, I will deliver everything if we reach the Executive Branch.
