Why was Jorge Muñoz vacated?
At the end of April, the Plenary of the National Election Jury (JNE) ultimately decided to declare the post of mayor of Lima vacant and decreed the removal of Jorge Muñoz from office, because it was considered that he had violated the Organic Law of Municipalities, having been part of the board of directors of Sedapal while simultaneously serving as mayor of the capital, a position he assumed in January 2019.
The complaint had been filed by Carlos Hinostroza Rodríguez, in September 2021, who claimed that Muñoz Wells he received allowances as compensation for his presence in the aforementioned directory, while at the same time he received the salary that corresponded to him as mayor, fact that violates what is established by law regarding the functional limits of the position held by Jorge Muñoz.
However, He stated that he was innocent of the accusation and defended himself on the grounds that his participation in the board of directors of the state company was due to a circumstantial situation.: the rupture of a large pipeline in San Juan de Lurigancho and subsequent flooding, events that occurred shortly after the start of his administration. However, this defense did not convince the autonomous body, which in the end prematurely removed him from the post.
