Juan Carlos Delgado Echevarriaformer chief of staff of the Ministerial Office of the Ministry of Healthwho resigned from his position —on the last Wednesday, October 26— after the Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation into the alleged case of illicit enrichment of former Minsa head Jorge López Peña, he was appointed as advisor II of the Ministry.
“It is resolved to appoint Mr. Juan Carlos Delgado Echevarría in the position of advisor II of the Ministerial Office of the Ministry of the Interior”, reads in Resolution No. 1536-2020-IN, which bears the signature of Minister Willy Huerta Olivas.
According to the journalistic complaint released last Sunday, October 23, six Minsa workers made bank deposits in a suspicious manner —falling into the practice known as ‘smurfing’— to the ex-partner of López Peña, Dervy Apaza Meza.
It has been made 12 transactions in total, which represented an amount of S/ 98,400. This money was intended to pay for part of an apartment acquired by the mother of López’s children, who would have coordinated the operation.
A few hours after the complaint was known and in the face of the weak defenses of Lopez Penathe President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo Terrones, announced that he had decided to terminate the appointment of the minister:
“Given the facts spread by the media that would involve the current Minister of Health and, in order to demonstrate absolute transparency in my government, I have decided to terminate his functions. I reiterate my commitment to continue working for the country”, the president said via Twitter.
After the departure of Jorge López, on October 27, the congresswoman from Peru Libre Kelly Portalatino assumed leadership of the Health portfolio.
As it is recalled, the questioned person was in said ministry before. Lopez Pena Y Hernan Condoritwo people with close ties to Vladimir Cerron.
