Flamengo, who is without a coach, is willing to wait for the Portuguese coach to finish the season with Fenerbahçe
The long-awaited Jorge Jesus left his mark on “Mengao” where he won five titles, including the Libertadores 2019 and the Brasileirao 2019
And after six coaches in less than three years, Flamengo once again bets everything on the signing of Jorge Jesus, the coach with whom he touched the sky between 2019 and 2020, when he won five titles, including the 2019 Copa Libertadores (the second in the history of the Rio de Janeiro club) and the 2019 Brasileirao.
Jorge Jesus would arrive at ‘Mengao’ to relieve one of his compatriots, Vitor Pereirastruck down after losing the final of the Carioca Championship against Fluminense: he had won 2-0 in the first leg, but Sunday was beaten 4-1 in Maracana.
This was the fourth consecutive title lost by Flamengo since January, in which it has chained one cataclysm after another: the Supercopa do Brasil (it was beaten 3-4 by Palmeiras), the Club World Cup (where it did not even reach the final), the Recopa Sudamericana (lost to Independiente del Valle) and now the regional tournament of Rio de Janeiro in a classic of maximum rivalry.
There is, however, a major obstacle to materialize the return of Jorge Jesus to Rio de Janeiro and it is the fact that he has a valid contract with Fenerbahçe until the end of this season.. And the management of the Turkish club has already communicated that it is not about to lose its coach now that he enters the decisive stretch of the course when the titles are at stake.
Flamengo, in principle, would be willing to wait for the coach who is unanimous between all levels of the club, the ‘crooked’ and public opinion, and, in this way, intends to put an end to the carousel of changes on the bench.
Since the departure of Jorge Jesus, in the middle of 2020, up to six coaches have directed the Rubronegro from Rio de Janeiro: Pep Guardiola’s former assistant, Domènec Torrent; Rogerio Ceni; Renato Portaluppi; Paulo Sousa; Dorival Junior (who won the 2022 Copa Libertadores and the 2022 Copa do Brasil and, surprisingly, was not renewed); and, now, Vitor Pereira.
Waiting for Jorge Jesus, in principle, principle, an interim coach, Mario Jorge from the Under-20 team, will lead Flamengo over the next few months in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores (where the cariocas debuted with a 2-1 defeat to Aucas), in the Copa do Brasil and in the Brasileirao, which begins this coming weekend.
