The senator for the National Party, Jorge Gandini, filed a complaint this Monday against the also senator, Charles Carrera (Frente Amplio), and intends to set up an investigative commission to scrutinize alleged irregularities from the years when the Frente Amplio was general director of the Secretariat of the Ministry of the Interior.
According to Gandini, the complaint will start the pre-investigation commission that will determine whether or not Carrera is liable and the accusations that fall on him so that the investigative commission is formed. It should be clarified that this is not a judicial instance but a parliamentary one.
The nationalist legislator rejected that they are trying to pressure this commission against Carrera at a time when public opinion is focused on the mega case of Alejandro Astesiano, former custodian of Luis Lacalle Pou accused of coordinating a network of sale of false passports. “Now, the decision has been made taking into account that the social security reform will soon enter and the decision implies that I will not integrate that special commission for Social Security because this other one takes a long time,” he said, adding that the complaint it will point precisely to Carrera’s conduct and to the facts, both related to the public administration, with “irregular-appearing decisions that were made from the realm of power, abusing the functions of a general director.”
“He gave orders and spent public resources aimed at people who did not have the right to use them at a time after his medical discharge, which was given to him at the Hospital de Clínicas. All this has many suspicions about the cause of why it was decided to take that path, which of course are absolutely far from solidarity. We do not believe that this was the motivation, we do believe that there were diversions of public funds, “he concluded, as published. Montevideo Portal.
