The independence of Texas, in 1836, is a very rare case, when a group of immigrants, accepted by a sovereign country, then rebel, declare war and become independent. From that moment on, relations, now with Texas and the Texans, became complicated. Immigrants who became invaders now not only feel like conquerors of a territory to which they have a right, but also feel attacked and remind their population over and over again of what happened during the war: Remember Alamo, to have it always present and mark distances.
