What began as a simple gift in childhood became a passion that transcended borders and records. Jorge Vázquez, known in him Geek world like Jorge de Pegaso, He is the largest collector of Saint Seiya articles on the planet, a recognition endorsed by the Guinness record.
With more than 15,000 pieces between figures, sleeves, publications and collection objects, this Peruvian lawyer turned the Zodiac knights as an essential part of his life. His fanaticism, which was born in 1994 when watching the first episode on television, led him to build not only a unique collection, but also a cultural legacy.
A long trip
His first figure, a Capricorn Shura, a copy bought by his mother, marked the beginning of a story that, over time, became his own universe. Shortly after, his father gave him the five original figures of the Bronze Knights, a gesture that consolidated Jorge’s decision: dedicate his life to the collecting of Saint Seiya.
Today, the most valuable piece of its collection is an original drawing sent by Masami Kurumada, creator of the manga. An unprecedented gesture that Kurumada had never had with a fan.
In the anime
Jorge does not keep his treasures just for himself. In Lima he directs two free museums by Saint Seiya, located in Plaza Norte and Mall del Sur, where he exhibits part of his collection to thousands of visitors. In addition, it participates in international events carrying exclusive pieces, with the dream suddenly arrive in Bolivia.
His contribution to the universe of the Knights of Zodiac is such that he was even immortalized as an official character at the Spin-Off “Saint Seiya: Time Odyssey”. Jerome Alquie, author of the official history of that spin-off, with the blessing of Kurumada, baptized as Jorge the teacher of Ikki, formerly known as Guilty and also this character is from Peru. A unique tribute that makes it part of the franchise canon.
Way to Guinness
Getting the record was not an easy task. To certify it, Jorge had to invent each piece, document them with photos and videos, and fulfill strict protocols before notaries and authorities. It was an exhaustive work, but that ended with the official confirmation: it is the largest collector in the world of Saint Seiya.
Legacy
What for many is a hobby, for Jorge it is a lifestyle. “Knights of Zodiac taught me to fight for my dreams. If you work with passion and discipline, nothing is impossible,” he says. This philosophy shares it in conferences, interviews and soon in an autobiographical book where it will tell its history, with unpublished data on the franchise and testimonies of dubbing actors, cartoonists and singers linked to the work.
His family is also part of this adventure: his daughter inherited the taste for the gentleman of Fénix, while his partner has presented him exclusive pieces on special dates. Today, Jorge transmits a clear message for those who dream of collecting: “No collections to have more than the neighbor. Do it because you are passionate. Each piece must have an emotional value, beyond the economic one.”
Jorge hopes to visit Bolivia soon. Among the most unusual curiosities, it retains containers of the thematic ice cream of Saint Seiya arrived from China
