Since the early hours of this Monday, August 29, there have been no flights between 2 am and 5 am in the Jorge Chavez International Airport due to maintenance work on the runway.
This information was confirmed by Lima Airport Partners (LAP), as they assured that the provision given a few weeks ago by the same company has been respected.
It should be remembered that, through a statement on Twitter, the airport operator in Peru and concessionaire of the Jorge Chávez airport reported on the maintenance work on the runway and the suspension of flights in this range of hours.
“Regarding the maintenance work that will be carried out on the current runway of the Jorge Chávez Airport, from August 29 to October 29, 2022, LAP specifies that this work is carried out within the framework of the Preventive Maintenance Plan of the runway, platform and maneuvering areas, which was reported with due anticipation, in November 2021, thus complying with the provisions of the MTC “said the notice.
Airport expansion
The Jorge Chávez International Airport is undergoing improvement works, which include a new control tower, a runway and a terminal with twice the capacity of the current one. An investment of US$ 1,600 million is calculated for this expansion.
In addition, it is planned to complete the first two structures by the end of 2022, while in the case of the terminal, it is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2024 and it would come into operation the following year. To date, it has a progress of 9%.
Similarly, an extra investment of US$ 160 million will be for the remodeling of T1, which has an area of 90,000 m2. It is projected to have an annual flow of 50 million passengers in the next two decades.
Canceled flights?
Although it was reported that there would be no flights, that does not mean that scheduled flights will be canceled or moved to other dates. The airlines have been notified in advance, so they should not plan landings or boardings at the indicated time.
“The airlines receive this information, in a timely manner, from the General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) of the MTC, an instance to which they request the approval of their flight itineraries”LAP said.
“This type of work is scheduled in advance, therefore the aeronautical authority establishes that there are no flights in these time slots, for which this measure does not generate flight cancellations or rescheduling”he added.
However, Indecopi mentioned that in case the users of the air transport service present inconveniences related to the rescheduling of flights or cancellations, during said period, the airlines must keep the users informed about possible effects on the scheduled times for their flights.
“Thus, provide the available channels and the facilities so that they can carry out the corresponding rescheduling or access the reimbursement of the net value of the ticket, if requested by the user, as long as the execution of the flight is not useful.“, he pointed.
