The president of the Special Commission for Monitoring the Amnesty Law for Democratic Coexistence, Jorge Arreaza, reported that 6,071 full freedoms have been granted through the law and said that the exact number rejected is not yet known because many have gone to appeals.
The president of the Special Commission for Monitoring the Amnesty Law for Democratic Coexistence, Jorge Arreaza, expressed his desire that the recently approved Amnesty Law be “the last in a long time”, considering that it opens the way to “political stability”; However, he warned: «If someone amnestied for a crime (…) robs someone, makes a barricade, it is a new crime, he will be judged. The amnesty is not a patent of marque, he stressed.
The deputy presented a balance this Tuesday, March 2, from the headquarters of the National Assembly and reported that to date they had received 9,419 amnesty requests. He explained that 6,071 full freedoms have been granted and that of those, 5,826 are for people who had precautionary measures and were under submission regime. He added that 245 people who were imprisoned received full freedom. “The majority of the cases that have received amnesty come from the post-electoral processes, especially from the year 2024.”
He also insisted that there is still no exact number of rejected cases “because many of them have gone to appeal.” However, he said that “there are many cases that will not apply.”

Arreaza affirmed that the justice system “is doing an extraordinary job,” which has allowed, he said, “no bottlenecks to be generated” in a process that he claims has been massive in the receipt of documents to opt for amnesty.
In that sense, the parliamentarian indicated that people who do not correspond to friendly events have also attended the Palace of Justice to present their cases and assured that they are coordinating work with different public powers, courts, prosecutors and the Internal Policy Commission of the National Assembly to attend to these citizens in favor of reunion, national conciliation and the “new political moment in Venezuela to attend to them and give them the corresponding treatment for each case.”
On the other hand, he highlighted the work of the military justice, which is reviewing cases and granting freedoms to processes “of a political nature, of confrontation with State institutions and that were benefited with precautionary measures.” He recalled that military justice has its own methods.
