Jordan Díaz will be able to represent Spain at the Paris Olympics

MADRID, Spain.- Cuban jumper Jordan Díaz, triple jump world youth champion, will be able to represent Spain at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Spanish Athletics Federation announced Wednesday.

“The World Athletics nationality review panel has communicated to the Spanish Athletics Federation that Jordan Díaz will be eligible as of June 28, 2024,” the entity specified through Twitter.

To Jordan Diaz, nationalized Spanish last February, he was denied the possibility of representing Spain in international championships until 2025, for having competed with the Cuban flag, in accordance with the laws. But since he obtained nationality, the Spanish Federation had insisted on this possibility.

Díaz, 21 years old, left the island’s delegation in Spain in June 2021 after the end of the Castellón Meeting, in which he did not participate.

“He escaped at the very airport before leaving for another tournament,” Andy Lans, a young Cuban sports analyst who spread the news on Twitter, revealed on that occasion.

According to Marca, Jordan Díaz “hid in Zaragoza, where he came into contact with Ana Peleteiro, bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, who brought him to the attention of the Spanish authorities.”

The case of the young Cuban quickly passed through various spheres of the Government of Spain, which accelerated the nationalization process.

Currently trained by fellow Cuban Iván Pedroso, Jordan Díaz is among the favorites to win the gold medal in Paris.

In the Spanish outdoor athletics championship, held in last juneDíaz achieved a record for the European country with a jump of 17.87 meters.
