The famous folk singer Joni Mitchell (79), composer of songs like “A Case Of You”received on Wednesday night the award given by the US Library of Congress, in recognition of a career full of successes and forays into rock, pop, jazz and other genres.
Celebrated for her independence and versatility, the Canadian-born artist received the Gershwin Award at a gala in the city and US capital, Washington DC. The event was attended by numerous artists with the presence of artists such as Annie Lennox, Herbie Hancock, Cyndi Lauper, Graham Nash, Diana Krall or Angelique Kidjo, reported the AFP agency.
Author, composer, interpreter and plastic artist, Mitchell suffered in 2015 a brain aneurysm It limited his mobility.
Thanks to his will to recover, in 2022 offered a surprise show at the Newport Folk Festival in the eastern United States. The public was able to see her enjoy it with her guitar, interpreting songs like “Just like this train”, proving that the accident did not eliminate his musical talents. She also sang “A case of you”, one of her great classics, in a duet with Brandi Carlile, another contemporary folk star.
Joni Mitchell was one of the great figures of the folk-rock generation of the ’60s with hits like “Big Yellow Taxi”a hymn to the environment, “Both Sides Now” and “Woodstock”in homage to the historic festival in which, however, he did not participate in August 1969.
The Gershwine Award has already been received by consecrated artists such as Lionel Richie, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Carole King, among others.
