John Bolton warns that if Trump wins in November he could make a deal with Maduro

John Bolton believes that the international coalition against the administration of Nicolás Maduro has deteriorated and it will be difficult to rebuild it. In his opinion, it was a mistake to have accepted elections in Venezuela

John Bolton, who was a security adviser during the term of former US President Donald Trump, said that the current Republican candidate for the White House perceives President Nicolás Maduro as a “strong man” and that there is a chance that a meeting between the two could take place if he were to win the November elections.

Bolton said this in an interview with the newspaper The World published on Tuesday, September 24, where he regretted not having been able to do more to help Venezuela overcome the crisis it is experiencing and stated that Maduro remains in power thanks to the support of countries such as Russia and China, along with the intervention of Iran.

For the former diplomat, the geopolitical situation in Latin America dates back to the 1950s and 1960s, with the current position of Nicaragua, Venezuela and Cuba, along with other governments where the left is dominant.

She pointed out that the coordinator of Vente Venezuela, María Corina Machado, remains “in danger” within Venezuela and believes that it was a mistake to accept that Maduro hold the presidential elections on July 28, since “he was never going to allow freedom” and, in her opinion, the votes proclaimed by the National Electoral Council are “fictitious.”

“It was an exact replay of the 2019 election. It was the same thing all over again. Maduro is doing the same thing over and over again. The Biden administration is completely blind. Sanctions were lifted for a while. Now they have to be reimposed. But the damage has already been done. The international coalition against the regime has deteriorated and it is going to be difficult to put it back together,” Bolton said.

In her opinion, although she will not vote for any of the options in the November elections, a possible Kamala Harris administration could continue at least for the first year the path traced by the Joe Biden government “because that is why she has been sitting in the meetings of the National Security Council for three and a half years.”

In July 2022, John Bolton said it was a “mistake” for the then president-elect of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, to recognize the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, because “it gives him a legitimacy that he does not deserve.”

Bolton then told Colombia’s W Radio that the government headed by Maduro obtains financing not only through oil, but also seeks money through irregular means such as drug trafficking. In this regard, he said that his country does not want to return to the era of cartels and guerrillas.
